WHERE TO PLANT

Whether you’re planting in containers or garden beds, Crocuses perform best in locations where the soil drains well, and they will receive full to half-day sun.

They will not thrive in waterlogged soil, so if you notice water puddles 5-6 hours after a hard rain, scout out another site or amend the soil with organic material.

HOW TO PLANT

Plant your Crocus bulbs before the ground freezes in the fall.

Find a container, if using, with adequate drainage holes and fill it with well-draining soil. Select a spot with well-drained soil where your Crocus will receive full to half-day sun. Dig holes and plant the bulbs 3″ deep and 2–3″ apart, depending on the variety, with the pointed end facing up.Water thoroughly to soak the soil and settle it around the bulbs.

HOW TO GROW

Water as needed during active growth periods without waterlogging the soil. Add fertilizer in early autumn if your region experiences short, warm springs or late winter in areas with long and temperate springs.Apply a layer of mulch to garden beds before winter and remove in late February.Leave the foliage in place at the end of the blooming season rather than trim it off. Remove the foliage when the leaves turn yellow and die back.
